Reminder: Space Quiz on March 18

Students, this is a friendly reminder that you have a Science Assessment on Wednesday, March 18. You will need to be able to:

  • Define Space vocabulary practiced in class (ex: Sun, Moon, Planet, Constellation, Galaxy, Solar System, Universe, Rotation, Revolution, etc.)
  • Compare the lunar and solar (standard) calendars (explain similarities and differences between them)
  • Identify common constellations (ex: Big Dipper, Little Dipper, Orion)
  • Identify important stars (ex: North Star/Polaris)
  • Explain how stars/constellations are used for navigation
  • Compare different technologies for viewing space (ex: telescope, binoculars)

If you have any questions, please contact Ms Elder. If you're looking for ways to practice, review the material under "Classwork" -> "Science" on the Google Classroom.

HOMEWORK: Bring materials for Rover Building by Wednesday, March 11

With Ms Elder in Science, we are designing and building our own model rovers!

Yesterday, we researched Mars, to learn about its conditions, and what scientists are studying there. We discovered the rovers that have been sent to Mars and what their jobs were.

Today, we had time to design on our own rover. Then Ms Elder gave us a partner. We had to collaborate, combining our ideas to make one plan and material list.

Our rovers need to have:

  • a compartment that can open (to store samples in)
  • an arm to collect samples
  • wheels that move

Tomorrow (Friday), we will bring home a copy of our plans and material lists. Our rovers will be made out of recyclable materials brought from home.

We will be building on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11. We need to bring materials from home to build with.

Here are some pics of us planning. :)

Reminder: Earth Systems Quiz on Sept 25

Hi Students,

This is a reminder that you have a Science Assessment for Earth Systems coming up.

Quiz date: Thursday, Sept 25.

Here is what you are expected to know for the test, in case you'd like to review at home. You can use the resources on Google Classroom and re-read our class blog posts for help.

  • Name and define the 4 spheres (lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere).
  • Explain how the spheres are interconnected. If we impact one, all are impacted.
  • Explain why water is so important to humans (5+ reasons)
  • Explain how humans are dependent on each sphere, as well as how we impact each sphere.
  • Communicate ideas clearly, in full sentences, using scientific language discussed in class.
If you have any questions, reach out to Ms Elder.
